McGlashan’s Winery – Bellarine Penninsula

McGlashan's Winery | Miss Food Fairy

We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful city like Geelong, where there’s not just beautiful beaches but plenty of amazing food, wineries and breweries in the country. There’s plenty we’re yet to experience and this is the first of many, many places on our list to get out and see.

Everyday I wake up, I know that country living is for us. I call Geelong the country, as it feels amazingly quiet compared to the hustle and bustle to Melbourne, everyone is friendly and everywhere we look, we’re either 10 minutes from rolling hills and bushland, surrounded by livestock and paddocks or 10 minutes from the beautiful blue ocean with golden sand!

McGlashan’s Winery is located in Wallington, 18 kilometers from the Geelong city centre. Such a beautiful part of the country, surrounded by beautiful bush land, it seems like you’re a million miles from anywhere.

You drive up to the Cellar Door on a small country road, where you’re surrounded by 10 acres of vines. The tranquility is sublime and immediately you feel relaxed.

Walking into the cellar door house, you are greeted by a beautiful, and very friendly, border collie (there’s two of them, the boy loves to play fetch and isn’t afraid to come up to to throw his ball onto the large grassed area!) Inside there’s a bar, where you not only can taste and buy all their beautiful wines, but local beers as well; a wood-fired pizza oven in an under-covered area with plenty of seating, for the cooler months ahead and outside there’s large wooden bench seating to enjoy the tranquility, sunshine, wines and food, while overlooking the vineyards.

There’s plenty to eat – a couple of grazing platters to choose from, as well as a few different pizzas. We enjoyed the meat and cheese platter and a Margarita pizza, which was plenty for 3 adults.

Definitely all wines are a must try, and why not, you are at a winery! Our favourites were the Pinot Grigio, the Sparkling (so good, we had to bring a bottle – or two -home!) which has a hint of blush colouring from the Pinot Noir grapes. And both reds – Shiraz and Pinot Noir – were delicious.

Wallington’s Winery is a great place to enjoy a couple of drinks with friends or to bring the kids, as they can run on the grass or play with the dogs while you enjoy some drinks (they even have a kids menu!) All in all, friendly, welcoming and a perfect place to chill. Definitely heading back soon.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, they have classic cars on show occasionally too. On the day we went there was a red E-Type Jaguar 1972 model on display there too – very sexy indeed! As well as some new luxury eco villas to enjoy an extra night of relaxation.
