Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue is the theme for the goodies in my kitchen this month. This saying is usually used for good luck for the bride on her wedding day โ hope it gives me good luck cooking in my kitchen this month!
In my Kitchen is something old and something borrowed (above) – my sisterโs new plate, which was handed down from my nanna. This plate has been around for as long as I can remember – I think we used to have freshly baked scones served on this when we were younger. My sister let me borrow this so I could use it for photography with my food โ I will look after it with delicate hands, I promise. It says itโs made in Japan but doesnโt have a date on it โ maybe I should take it to the Antiques Roadshow to be appraised (my husband would love that).
In my Kitchen is hosted by Celia at Fig Jam & Lime Cordial, where we share all the goodies in and around our kitchens โ weโre all foodies who love finding new inspiration from all over the world. Come join us by the 10th of every month โ weโd love to see the goodies in your kitchen!
In my Kitchen is . . .
. . . something new โ my sous chef! His name is Kojiro, heโs a chocolate point ragdoll and he loves helping me in the kitchen. I have to be careful when frying food as I donโt want the oil to splatter on him! At the time of this photo he was about 12 weeks old.
In my Kitchen is . . .
. . . something new โ cookbooks! More amazing inspiration to add to my growing cookbook collection. Starting from the bottom โ Instant Entertaining by Donna Hay (which I picked up from an op-shop) sharesโ some amazing dinner tips, whether itโs a 3 or 4 course meals for the family dinner or entertaining guests with a dinner party to setting tables. Thereโs great canapรฉs in there for me to try. Zenbu Zen (Everything is Zen) by Jane Lawson takes us on a journey through Japanese food, culture and artistic insight. I look forward to this reading & being inspired by this cookbook as I just love all Asian cuisine but have never really tried cooking Japanese. The River Cottage Australia cookbook by Paul West is from the first series of River Cottage Australia. Everything is cooked using what is grown or produced from their farm โ paddock to plate, allowing the food to speak for itself without overcomplicating flavours. Nigella Express & Nigellisma by Nigella Lawson were two cookbooks that I was yet to have in my collection by this gorgeous cook. Nigellisma is Italian cuisine thatโs fresh, tasty and unpretentious. Nigella Express is all about eating well when time is short. Iโm excited to get my creative juices flowing with these wonderful cookbooks.

. . . something new โ Indian dishes. My sister bought me the two in the background and the ones with copper bases came from K-Mart at a bargain price of $2 each! I donโt have silver Indian-inspired serving dishes for my photographs so Iโm a bit excited to use them โ my copper serving bowls have had so much use so Iโm sure these will be used to death as well!
In my Kitchen is . . .
. . . something blue โ these beautiful patterned drinking glasses (thereโs four in total). I bought my sister some purple ones too and they came from Aldi last month.
In my Kitchen is . . .
. . . something old and something new โ 2 styles of red wine glasses and Krosno martini glasses. To me theyโre all new and Iโm so excited to have them in my kitchen! The red wine glasses bring back memories of when I was younger and my nan filled them with either with sherry or ginger wine โ I thought they looked so elegant and sophisticated. I thought they had gone with the wind when my nan moved years ago! To know my nan still had them and handed them down to me, being the oldest grandchild, I am the happiest girl in town! I do remember them being bigger when I was younger ๐ The Krosno martini glasses I found at an op-shop for $1 each! Bargain!

. . . something new โ baking trays. Well actually, Iโm using them for freezing the ice cream I hope to make soon. Iโve never made ice cream from scratch, apart from school, so Iโm a bit nervous but if I start with a simple flavour Iโm sure Iโll be hooked!
And last but now least In my Kitchen is . . .
. . . something new โ a 5kg Jarrahdale pumpkin, which has given me the inspiration to try other dishes not just pumpkin soup. But in case you missed it, hereโs my Roast pumpkin soup with bacon croutons to get right into pumpkin fever. Iโve got a couple of pumpkin recipes to come so please stay tuned.
