In my Kitchen September 2017

For the first week of Spring, we’ve had snow in places that don’t normally snow in Victoria! Lorne, which is 1.5-2 hours west of Melbourne and the Dandenong Ranges, 45 minutes east of Melbourne all had snowfall during the week! Any wonder it’s been so icy – see a photo below. Thought I’d be slowly putting the wooly jumpers & thermals away but I think they’ll be staying around for the next couple of weeks. How have you been enjoying the cool start to Spring?

I almost didn’t think I’d make this month as I’ve had computer trouble but all is sorted, for now, and I’m here! Recipes will be coming thick and fast over the next couple of weeks. I promise 🙂

Above is our new second-hand microwave, which we found on Gumtree. Our old microwave went to heaven about 2-3 months ago. At first I didn’t miss it, just went back to old-school cooking, everything was warmed up in the oven or stove top. Then I started missing how quick and convenient heating leftovers in the microwave was. This is an 1100W Sharp Carousel about 2 years old and boy does it heat food quickly! Love it 🙂 And yes, you see a few goodies in my pantry too!

Last month was my birthday and even though these items don’t get used in the kitchen, they were on my Baker’s stand. My sis, bro-in-law & nephews bought me a new hair straightener and my favourite perfume, Calvin Klein Euphoria – yummy! I also got a new swimsuit, thanks mum & dad in law, which I only got last week. It’s just a plain black cossie which helps me swim faster (or so I tell myself!) And of course my awesome Rayban sunglasses from hubby (in last months IMK).

I was given a bottle of this Bod Kombucha No. 5 orange & turmeric fizzy elixir by a friend. Loved the taste and the fizziness, it was like drinking a flavoured mineral water, but I don’t think I need to made even more regular than I am! Kombucha is all the rage right now – it’s good for gut health – and this would have to be one of my favourite kombucha drinks I’ve tried. And it’s made right here in Melbourne, well Fairfield to be precise. NOTE: the drink looked different colours in different lights.

Some beautiful limes, which I bought at an Asian grocer, for recipe testing a couple of Thai dishes. Oh and as you can tell, loving my new blue throw prop – for the win!

Almost forgot about my bouquet of Thai basil. It has to be one of my favourite herbs as it fills the house with a magical aroma, that takes me straight back to Thailand.

And lastly a couple of my Thai cookbooks I pulled out after we got back from Thailand. I had to see if any of the dishes we ate were in them. I found a couple of recipes but there’s still a few recipes I need to test out. The only thing I have is my taste buds to go by. Wish me luck!

And don’t forget, incase you missed my recipe in your inbox, click the subscribe button in the right panel now, and never miss recipes like this one – my chicken, potato and spinach curry. It’s deeeelishish! 😉

Oh and don’t forget, if you’d like to join us and share the things that are in your kitchen right now, join us by the 10th of each month and drop a comment in at Sherry from Sherry’s Pickings.

Thanks to the Herald Sun and Visit Apollo Bay for this great shot and article about snow in Victoria.
